Council Bluffs Water Works – West Broadway Water Main Replacement.
As part of the West Broadway Reconstruction Project the Council Bluffs Water Works will replace existing water main and services. Some of the existing water main dates back to 1881, the same year of the Gunfight at the OK Corral! Needless to say, a water main that was installed 135 years ago was not constructed to the same standards we have today. The fact that the water main is that old may bring with it some surprises as we work through the project.
What will be the impacts of water main construction on our customers?
At times, it will be necessary to disrupt water service to our customers as part of the project.
This will occur:
- When connections/disconnections are made to the existing main for the new water main. We will provide two (2) days advance notification and expect the duration of the disruption to last approximately eight (8) to twelve (12) hours.
- When the customer’s water service is connected to the new main. We will provide two (2) days advance notification and expect the duration of the disruption to last approximately four (4) to six (6) hours.
- During unforeseen emergency shutdowns. In this case, we will not be able to notify our customers in advance, however, we will do everything possible to restore water service as soon as possible.
We want to thank our customers for their patience and understanding as we partner with the City to complete this important project. The Council Bluffs Water Works will make every effort to coordinate water service disruptions to limit any inconvenience to our customers. Once the new water main is completed we expect to provide our customers many years of uninterrupted water service, high quality drinking water and fire protection.
